I AM GOING THROUGH MY OLD JTHM ART AND LOL LOOK AT THIS NNY/OLDER!SQUEE OMG SO HAPPY RN I WANNA DRAW MORE NOW. I can’t believe this is from 5 years ago lol what

speaking of jthm art here is a really old ms paint thing that i am still pretty fond of.
I never understood how people my age were no good at digital art. I thought it just always came really easy to me, but I just realized that, holy shit, I’ve been doing digital work since I was 12. I remember when I first started experimenting with it with some shitty painting/editing program that came with my like 2 megapixel digital camera lol. I didn’t know about photoshop or anything. I never actually started using photoshop to do digital work until my sophomore year of college, which is weird to me. But basically, I just realized that really, I have 8 years of digital painting experience behind me. WHICH IS NUTS. So that would explain why it comes so “easily” to me. Not that my skill level in the digital realm is maxed out by any means, but I feel like I am in the range of top level digital art for my time and age.
I didn’t feel challenged with the digital pieces I was doing for senior thesis, and I feel like there is a certain emotional authenticity that isn’t always present in digital work versus traditional. I wanted to do something that evoked a strong emotional and mental response; something that people could find themselves sitting and staring at for a long period of time, instead of looking in passing… Which I feel is the general response to digital art at this point in time. Beautiful traditional painting is a rarity because artists of that genre are being outnumbered by digital artists.
I decided that I wanted to work in oil paint for my senior thesis because it makes me happy. I couldn’t figure out why it made me happier than digital art though, since I am much more top notch at digital art. But I realized that it’s the challenge that makes me happy. Using Adobe Illustrator was my favorite thing for a while because I could make beautiful and crisp digital work with it, and I had just learned how to use it during my last semester of junior year. It was challenging, but now that I have been playing with it a lot, it is boring to me now.
Creating digital art just really bores me compared to the experience of doing an oil painting. Really, my cumulative painting experience is probably around 3 years. I am creating what is considered to be top notch work among CCS, but I still have so much to learn! And I am getting to learn as I create, which is incredibly rewarding.
Not that I don’t have anything else to learn about digital work, but… fuck. I just had to type this out. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lol.
I can’t wait for everyone to see the entirety of my senior thesis paintings. I hope to blow some minds. :]
aw, thank you. just roll with the punches, and everything will turn out the way you want it to. ;}
aw yay lol that makes me happy
